The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) is offering
the opportunity for individuals who currently provide or seek to provide
employment discrimination prevention training or to conduct internal
discrimination complaint investigations to attend three MCAD-certified
programs. In addition to the program’s two half-day prerequisite
sessions, there are two sessions in the MCAD Train-the-Trainer
series and one additional session, Conducting Internal Discrimination
Complaint Investigations. These MCAD courses are designed for:
Ø
Human resources managers, EEO officers, training directors and others
who conduct training and/or investigations in the workplace.
Ø
Employment lawyers, diversity consultants and others who provide
training and/or investigations as external consultants to employers.
The MCAD Train-the-Trainer Series
There are
two courses in the Train-the-Trainer series. All participants in
either or both of these courses must attend two half-day prerequisites:
Prerequisite 1: Introduction to Employment Discrimination Law
or The Lawyer as Trainer and Prerequisite 2: Introduction to
Training Delivery Skills or Applying Instructional Design Skills.
Admission to each prerequisite depends on participants’ level of
knowledge and experience in the subject area. The application form
specifies the requirements for attendance in each of the prerequisites.
The two
courses in the Train-the-Trainer series are Trainer Course 1:
Preventing Discrimination in the Workplace (three-day program) and
Trainer Course 2: Preventing Harassment in the Workplace (two
days). Individuals may enroll in one or both courses.
Individuals who complete Trainer Course 1 and/or 2 (including the
prerequisites) have the opportunity to be placed on a list maintained by
the MCAD for referral to employers seeking trainers, and are eligible to
deliver Commission-ordered remedial training. The MCAD may require
supplementary training in the future in order to maintain eligibility to
conduct Commission-ordered training and remain on the referral list.
Additional MCAD Discrimination Prevention Program
Conducting Internal Discrimination Complaint Investigations
This
course begins with Prerequisite 3: Introduction to Employment
Discrimination Law. (Prerequisite 3 is not required for
participants who have completed Prerequisite 1A or 1B.) Individuals who
complete the Investigations course will have the opportunity to be
placed on an MCAD referral list provided to employers seeking to hire an
internal investigator. This is a separate list from the
Train-the-Trainer referral lists. The MCAD may require supplementary
training in the future to maintain eligibility for referrals.
Faculty
The course faculty includes the MCAD Director of Training, and several
additional workplace discrimination trainers with years of experience in
civil rights litigation, instructional design, group facilitation,
and/or internal investigations.
